Yes, you are automatically protected. All you need to do is ensure you have a valid mobile number registered with Unity Bank. When making online purchases, look out for the Visa Secure and eftpos Secure logos (as shown below) displayed on participating retailers’ website. If there is no Visa Secure and eftpos Secure logos, you can still continue to shop online, however the extra layer of protection won’t be provided via Visa Secure and eftpos Secure.
As you make a purchase online, a “Payment Authentication” screen may appear shortly after you attempt to complete payment at checkout. This verification helps ensure the person using your card is you and protects you from potential fraud. To verify your identity, we will send you a One-Time Password (OTP) via SMS to your mobile number. You will be required to enter the OTP on the “Payment Authentication” screen and, if successful, will complete the authentication.
Please note: Members are encouraged to check their mobile number and email address are up to date to allow us to send their OTP.

How are my online purchases secured with Visa?
Visa has developed a program that helps confirm your identity when you make an online purchase. There’s no need to download anything, install software, or register your account. During an online purchase from your desktop, mobile or other digital device, you may be guided through an extra check to verify your identity. This helps us ensure you are you and that you are getting the additional protection from online frauds. This is one way Unity Bank and Visa have teamed up to secure your account(s).
What happens if I don’t receive the One-Time Password (OTP)?
If you have not received the OTP via SMS, it may possibly mean the mobile number stored with Unity Bank might be different from your current mobile number. To update your mobile number, you can either do it via Internet Banking or give us a call on 1300 36 2000.
What is the benefit of Visa Secure and eftpos Secure for Members?
With the Visa Secure and eftpos Secure services, you get an extra layer of protection that prevents the unauthorized use of your Visa Card while shopping online. These services help us know you are really you and most importantly it protects you from online fraud.
Is my personal information safe and secure?
Yes. Your information is transmitted using a high level of encryption and is stored on a secured server.
Does the Visa Secure and eftpos Secure services have extra fees?
No. There are no additional fees for members to use these services.
How will I know if my online purchase has this added layer of protection?
Visa Secure and eftpos Secure services will automatically work during checkout at any of Visa's participating online retailers’ website. There is no need to download anything, install software, or register for an account to get this added layer of protection. When using these services, you may occasionally be prompted at checkout to verify your identity, but this is to ensure you are really you.

Can I still use my Unity Bank Visa card with online retailers who are not participating in this program?
Yes, your Unity Bank Visa card will continue to work as usual if the retailer is not participating in this program. However, the extra protection offered by Visa Secure and eftpos Secure will not apply to the transaction.
Can I use both credit and debit cards?
Yes! This service was designed for both Visa credit and debit cards when shopping online. When you use your Visa debit card, your online transaction experience will be similar to a credit transaction.
What happens when I finish shopping?
When you are finished shopping, proceed to the retailer's checkout page. As you complete the transaction, you may be prompted to verify your identity if additional authentication is required. This step is especially important when your card isn’t in your possession. This extra verification step helps ensure the person using your card is really you.
If I do encounter this extra verification step, what will the extra check be?
Unity Bank has a number of tools that can help verify your identity such as a One-Time Password. If you encounter this extra step, simply follow the instructions on your screen to verify your identity.

If you do encounter this extra verification step, Visa Secure and eftpos Secure help transmit the information being shared between the merchant and us. The Visa Secure and eftpos secure logos are there to give you peace of mind that your online transaction is secure.
What should I do if I suspect someone has fraudulently used my card?
If you suspect a fraudulent purchase has been made using your Unity Bank credit or debit card, you must contact Unity Bank on 1300 36 2000 as soon as you can.
What happens when I am travelling overseas, and I am shopping online?
You will need to contact Unity Bank through our secured email via Internet Banking or call us on +61 2 8263 3200. It is important to remember that not all transactions will require OTP authentication, only transactions deemed high risk.
